it's and its

If I see another misuse of these two words, I will tear out my hair -- and that of
anyone using them wrong -- if I can get my hands on them!

Correct Use:
it's, for it is
and
"its," for the possessive form of "it."

Try this test:
If you can say, "it is....," then you can use the form, "it's, e.g.
It's going to be a long time until we have dinner.

But if you are talking about possession, like, "the cat stretched its legs," you
must never-ever use an apostrophe in that sentence!!!! It's already possessive.
Its is a possessive pronoun all by itself. You don't need to add anything to make
it possessive!

Example of both: It's going to be a long time before the cat gets to stretch its legs
again.

Now, see if you can tell whether the following uses are right or wrong...

Northern Wisconsin? It's the greatest place in the world!

Speaking about a waterfall: It's moisture filled the air.

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Its history was short and sweet.

The bear licked its fur.
